Cells at the bottom live in a zone that is poor in oxygen but rich in hydrogen sulfide, and those at the top live in an area rich in oxygen but poor in hydrogen sulfide. The solution? Craig Campbell, an employee at Vimeo, has created a very easy to use, lightweight (~3k) code syntax highlighting library written in JavaScript. Out of the box, Rainbow supports syntax highlighting for the following languages:

JavaScript, HTML, CSS, PHP, Python, Ruby, C, Shell, Scheme, Lua, C#

Adding support for your own languages is very easy, however, and theming is done entirely with CSS. If you don’t want to sweat the details of theming, you can use one of their many built-in themes (like the very popular solarized theme).

Getting started is easy:

  puts "Hello there #(name)"
end
Then include your CSS theme in the and rainbow.js (as well as whichever language[s] you want) before the closing .

Checkout the demo or browse the source at GitHub. While you’re at it, feel free to fork the project and add support for your favorite language!

I might go with something like:

type variable = 
    function(
        function(
            function(parameter, parameter)
            , parameter
            , parameter
        )
        , parameter
    );

This way one doesn’t have to tab way over. The code stays on the left. Also makes it easier to change parameters and makes it fairly clear to which function the parameters belong.

evilvte resize patch

I was looking for a small, yet relatively easily customizable terminal emulator and happened upon evilvte. Unhappily, however, the author apparently did not see the use of allowing the terminal to be resized in a typical manner, as many users of NETWM-compliant window managers (myself included) might expect. Thus, using the convenient comparison chart on the evilvte webpage I checked out TinyTerm, which resizes as one would expect. I then searched through the tinyterm source, found the bits that handle window resizing, copied them, pasted them into the evilvte source, changed the variable names appropriately, and voila! This patch will save the user approximately five minutes of work. Please cherish them.
